The honest starting point
This question deserves a straight answer rather than a comforting one. We searched for research on individual human recognition in Pogona vitticeps and did not find it in the sources we are prepared to cite.
That is a gap in the evidence, not proof of absence. Plenty of things are true before anyone studies them. What we can do is lay out what is documented about this animal's senses and behaviour, and let you judge what it adds up to.
The sensory equipment is there
If a bearded dragon recognises you, it has the hardware to do it.
Vision is well developed: Diurnal lizards share a highly conserved ancestral pattern of four spectrally distinct cone classes (UV-, short-, medium- and long-wavelength sensitive), suggesting tetrachromatic colour vision extending into ultraviolet.
Four spectrally distinct cone types is a sophisticated colour system, better than a dog's by that measure. A dragon watching you cross a room is receiving detailed visual information, including colour distinctions humans and many mammals cannot make.
Hearing works, differently: Lizards have external ears (visible ear openings rather than protruding ears) and appear to hear better than snakes.
No external ear flaps, but functional hearing. Voices are perceptible.
And there is the third eye: Lizards have a parietal 'third eye' atop the head with a primitive retina and photoreceptor cells; it detects changes in light and dark and helps regulate hormone production (circadian/thermoregulatory function)
That one is a shadow detector rather than a recognition organ, and it explains why approaching from above unsettles a dragon regardless of who you are. The third eye guide covers it.
So the animal can see you clearly, in colour, and hear you. Nothing sensory rules recognition out.
What behaviour actually shows
Here the evidence is stronger, though it points to habituation rather than to personal attachment.
The species is documented as unusually tolerant of people: Described as highly social with keepers, friendly, animated, curious, docile and gentle; docile and interactive when handled often.
Dragons handled regularly become calmer with handling over time. Dragons that are not handled stay skittish. That is learning, and it is real. What it demonstrates is that the animal has learned handling is not dangerous, which is not quite the same as knowing it is you.
Routine learning is easier to demonstrate. Dragons anticipate feeding, respond to the sight of a food dish, and become active when enclosure lights come on. All of that is straightforward associative learning, and this species does it well.
The strongest honest statement: a bearded dragon behaves differently with a familiar handler than with a stranger, and the reason may be recognition of you, recognition of your handling style, or simply that unfamiliar handling is clumsier.
What the sleep research suggests, carefully
One finding is worth mentioning because it speaks to cognitive sophistication generally: Bearded dragons show both REM and slow-wave sleep (first demonstrated in a reptile; Shein-Idelson et al., Science 352:590, 2016). Sleep cycle is ~80 seconds at 27 C (vs ~30 min in cats, 60-90 min in humans), with the two phases of roughly equal duration.
And its implication: The bearded dragon sleep findings suggest brain sleep (REM + slow-wave) originated at least 320 million years ago in the common ancestor of amniotes (reptiles, birds, mammals)
That does not demonstrate owner recognition. It does undercut the older assumption that reptile brains are simple machines incapable of anything interesting, which is the assumption that made the recognition question sound absurd in the first place.
What is definitely not recognition
Several behaviours get read as affection and mean other things entirely.
Arm waving: Slow circular wave of one forelimb while standing on three legs; used for species recognition and to show submission/appeasement - most often seen in younger or subordinate animals signalling they are not a threat. That is appeasement, not a greeting. Our waving guide covers it.
Head bobbing: A fast head bob combined with an inflated, blackened beard signals male dominance (also used in mating displays); a slow bowing bob is used by adult females to signal submission to a male. That is dominance or courtship, not enthusiasm at your arrival.
Stillness during handling: often calm, sometimes fear. Check the beard and body posture: When threatened they flatten the body and enlarge the throat, which can turn black.
Closing eyes while held: frequently interpreted as contentment. It may equally be a dragon shutting out an overwhelming situation. No source we cite settles it.

Why it matters practically
This is not just a philosophical question. How you answer it shapes husbandry.
An owner who believes their dragon loves company may handle it too much, or keep two together for companionship. The second is a documented welfare error: Not social - solitary animals; should be housed individually, and males must be kept separately (territorial)
And the consequence: House bearded dragons individually: RSPCA SA states they 'can inflict severe damage to each other, resulting in loss of limbs and even death' and that keeping multiple females together 'is not a safe practice and is best to avoid'; RSPCA UK: 'it's best to house bearded dragons separately'.

How to build the relationship you can actually have
What you can reliably build is a dragon that finds you unremarkable and handling unthreatening. That is worth a great deal for stress levels, veterinary visits, and daily care.
Handle consistently and correctly: Support the whole body from underneath including fore and hind limbs; do not squeeze; RSPCA UK suggests about 10-15 minutes at a time as a safe handling period; over-handling is stressful.
Approach from the side, never from above, for the parietal eye reason.
Keep sessions short and frequent rather than long and rare.
Do not use food as a lure, which builds a feeding association rather than a handling one.
